REvolution R Enterprise

Windows is the most popular platform for the R language. However, before REvolution, users of R on Windows needed to constrain their memory usage to below 2 gigabytes. REvolution's Enterprise for Windows 64-bit operating systems greatly increases the amount of memory that can be accessed for statistical computations.

 

REvolution developed Windows 64-bit support in partnership with Microsoft and with the R-Core team.

R Packages and REvolution R Enterprise for 64 bit

Over 1500 community-contributed packages have been ported to 64-bit Windows and are available for use with REvolution R Enterprise, available from REvolution's package repository.

 

Uwe Ligges, Professor at the University of Dortmund in Germany and an active member of the R community, described his interactions with REvolution during the test period:

"During the time I had the opportunity to test the very well working beta version on the winbuilder (64-bit) machine that is used to build CRAN binary packages for 32-bit R, REvolution developers were extremely responsive and helpful. Package updates that were required in order to work with REvolution's R version had been released at REvolution's binary package repository within a day or two.”

Additional Performance with Windows 64 bit support

REvolution's optimized build process has resulted in most R programs running faster with our Windows 64-bit REvolution R Enterprise distribution than they run on our already known-for-speed 32-bit distribution of REvolution R. REvolution R Enterprise also enables parallelization through the inclusion of Parallel R, allowing R programs to easily exploit multiple processing cores and, with the same code, to scale across clusters.
